Poetry. It’s what I think about when I paint. I look for poetry in my choice of painting locations, and in an expression or gesture of a figure or animal. With each painting, I try to convey the magic that has tempted me to choose that location; it is what drives me to capture in paint that which I want to share with my viewer. Sometimes I find the poetry of a place in the sky, sometimes I find it in a vast pasture land stretching out before me. And often I find the magic in the light – the way it illuminates a face, a hillside or a farmhouse. I love to paint and my desire is to communicate through my work the poetry I see and feel.
"Painting from nature is not copying the object;
it is realizing one's sensations."
Paul Cézanne
